The Autumn Update: Hustle and Bustle

Wake up, drink coffee. Let out the turkeys and ducks. Bring grain to chickens and pigs. Check waterers. Move sheep, move hens, move goats, move cows. Grain again in the evening. Lock up turkeys and ducks. Sleep and repeat.

Let us not forget the projects we tack on in between, or the larger fencing projects that happen every week or so. With so many tasks and only so many hours in the day, it's hard to make time for much else, marketing included. The thing is, most of us farmers chose this lifestyle because we enjoy working the land and cultivating a connection to nature. But if you can't sell what you produce, it's awfully hard to make a living. Herein lies the rub.

We've spent many moons nurturing our charges and nourishing the land they live on, and very soon our fields will hold many fewer animals and our freezers many more. This cycle ties in very purposefully with the seasons. As the grass stops growing and the air chills, it is time to feed hay to the breeding stock and our community with their offspring, fat off fertile pastures. So it goes. It is the hardest part of our job, saying goodbye, taking life, but we do so with reverence and humility, grateful to be so close to that which sustains us. I wouldn't have it any other way.

This is where you come in. All of this nutritious, delicious meat needs to move from our freezers into yours! We've done work to make our "CSA" more accessible for folks. There are prepaid credit options as well as box subscriptions available. Please consider purchasing credit or a box for yourself or as a gift for a loved one who loves to cook and values their health. Now is the time to support us in living our dream and doing right by the land and animals we honor in life and death. Check our our updated CSA page now. Don't hesitate to email us with any questions, and please take the time to share this with your friends!

For those of you in the Pioneer Valley, be sure to come see us at the Northampton Winter Farmers Market. We'll have a stall set up once a month from November through April. Our first market is 11/17. For all market dates, see the Events and Markets page.

We appreciate your continued support of Underline Farm. Thank you for making this all possible. Sign up for our mailing list on the Contact page to stay up to date with farm happenings, get recipe suggestions, and more!
